* Left-hander Andrew Miller, who lasted just three pitches before leaving with what manager Bobby Valentine said was a mild hamstring strain in his left leg on Tuesday, reported to the Fort today with “soreness and stiffness.” Miller, who already was kept out of spring games for 11 days after developing a little stiffness in his elbow, will be kept out of any activities over the next “24 to 48 hours” before being re-evaluated. The injury happened, Valentine said, on the first pitch Miller threw. He was working with a new no-windup delivery.
* Vincente Padilla, who sustained a mild hamstring strain while in the weight room Monday, will attempt to play catch Wednesday. Valentine said Padilla showed some improvement, but he also said Padilla would likely miss his next scheduled outing, which would have been against the Orioles on Friday.
* Carl Crawford took a day off from hitting and fielding Wednesday, but the Red Sox outfielder initiated a baserunning routine today. He will do soft toss on Thursday. Valentine said he “has no idea” when Crawford would be able to take live batting practice. “It’s all in the trainer’s hands,” Valentine said.
* Reliever Franklin Morales (shoulder weakness) will make his first spring appearance today.
