Is There Anything Scorsese Can’t Do?

Goodfellas, The Departed, Mean Streets, Hugo, Casino, Gangs of New York, manage the Rays. Guys a five tool entertainer.

Seriously though, every time I see Joe Maddon on TV I have a sudden urge to watch Goodfellas.

Big Trouble in Little Havana

Above is the saddest attempt at putting Ozzie Guillen inside the head of Che Guevara. But whatever, I’m here to write.

For the first time in I think ever, Ozzie Guillen genuinely apologized Tuesday. I know he kind of apologized to the gay community when he questioned Jay Mariotti’s sexual orientation. But this time around he pissed off roughly a third of Miami’s population when he said he admired Fidel Castro, granting him a 5 game suspension.

Basically what Ozzie said to Time Magazine was, “I respect Fidel Castro. You know why? A lot of people have wanted to kill Fidel Castro for the last 60 years, but that (expletive) is still there.” He also said he loved and admired him. Now I’m not Cuban, I know how Fidel has oppressed many Cubans, but I don’t know how Fidel has oppressed many Cubans, and I never will.

With that said, I don’t think that Ozzie truly grasps just how bad the people of Cuba have been treated. Especially since Ozzie is Venezuelan and the man over there is buddy buddy with the Cuban dictator.  There’s another story there all together, Ozzie likes Hugo Chavez one interview and detests him the next, who knows how he really feels.

This isn’t even the first time he’s given props to El Presidente, in 2008 when Men’s Journal asked him who is the toughest man he knows Guillen said “Fidel Castro, he’s a bull—- dictator and everybody’s against him, and he still survives, has power. Still has a country behind him. Everywhere he goes they roll out the red carpet. I don’t admire his philosophy. I admire him.”

The difference is, in 2008 Guillen was coaching in Chicago and not in the Cuban section of Miami. This year was a transformation year for the Marlins franchise. They not only changed their name from the Florida Marlins to the Miami Marlins and changed uniforms, they also have a new stadium in the Little Havana and they have very Cuban themed festivities. Then all of a sudden, the voice of the Marlins goes ahead and pisses off a majority of it’s fan base with a stupid comment that should never have been said.

The rest you already know, fans picketed outside of the stadium, the Marlins suspended Guillen for 5 games, and Ozzie had a press conference where he said things like “Everybody in the world hates Fidel Castro, including myself.” Adding, “I was surprised that he’s still in power. That’s what I was trying to say to the journalist. And that’s the first thing that came out of my mouth. I admit it. It was the wrong words.”

Yeah wrong words indeed. But Ozzie is not taking this suspension and turning it into a vacation, he has already met with “The Women in White,” a group of Cuban-American women that are married to Cuban men in exile or in Cuban prisons. They have apparently accepted his apology, now the rest of Miami has to.

Honestly, I love Ozzie Guillen. He is hilarious to follow on Twitter if you can decipher his Spanglish and I think he’s a good coach. If Miami can root for LeBron James, they should root for Ozzie. Ask yourself Miami, who is the bigger asshole? LeBron or Ozzie? If you say Ozzie you don’t know who LeBron is.
